In person visits are awesome for me. After the visit all inmates are stripped and searched, then walked back to our housing units. One of the other inmates says his wife who has visited him repeatedly for many months drove six hours to be denied. The guards supposedly confused her for another woman whose name was similar but spelled differently who had been arrested for possession of methamphetamine and the guards refused to double check the mistake. Then, he said, the social worker for his housing unit was making fun of him because his wife struggles with addiction, even though it wasn't actually his wife whom the guards had looked up. I don't nkow the truth of it all, but if its true it is an example of how corrective action for staff error is not a consideration until after deprivations are suffered. And, gossip reigns supreme. I am shocked at how little guards do, from what I have seen. I think a lot of what they do to grief inmates is actually done from boredom if not the resentment of not walking to come to "work." Compared to jail and Dodge, the staff here has been decent toward me except for their effort to block me from talking to my kids. Even if the other inmates wife was arrested for possessing drugs, I feel like it shouldn't be something to tease him about or to gossip to other staff. I just don't see how it is good or in any way constructive or rehabilitative.
